Students, fans and alumni will have the chance to interact with the Louisiana Tech University men’s and women’s basketball teams at 7 p.m. tonight at Scotty Robertson Memorial Gymnasium.

Tech Madness, formerly known as Basketball Bonanza, is an annual event put on by the athletics department to promote the upcoming season, said Jay Luksis, who serves as assistant athletics director of marketing.

“Tech Madness will serve as the kickoff event to the 2013-14 men’s and women’s basketball seasons,” Luksis said. “Students and fans will get their first chance to be introduced to both teams and coaches. At the event, the band, cheerleaders and dance team will perform. Special guest DJ Red Tables will be playing music throughout the night.”

Bulldog basketball head coach Michael White said this event is a fun time for his players to interact with fans.

“This event gives our fans a sneak peak at this year’s team and also allows our players to have fun in a laid back setting.” White said. “Community involvement is important to all athletics programs, for both the community and for student athletes.”

Tech students will be randomly selected to compete against players from both teams in a 3-point shooting contest.

Some members of the Bulldog basketball team will compete in a slam dunk contest. Members of the Blue Crew, a popular fan group made up of students and fans, will serve as judges for the contest.

The event is being held in Scotty Robertson Memorial Gymnasium due to the installation of the new video board in the Thomas Assembly Center.

“We’re putting this event on to get the fanbase and students excited for what promises to be a great year of Tech basketball,” Luksis said. “The new video board being installed in the TAC is going to change the atmosphere in the building and enhance the overall game day experience.”

The event is free and open to the public.

Fans will have the opportunity to win prizes from a raffle drawing. The prizes include gift cards and autographed posters.
