Nine Tech students were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia Oct. 29.

The group consisted of Jonathan Gruening, 19, Blake Bolton, 18, Blake Thibodeaux, 18, Dominique Jones, 18, Michael Arends, 22, Ragan Wilburn, 19, William Miller, 18, Lily Smith, and Whitfield Logan, 19.

The group was arrested behind Pierce Hall, where the arresting officers stated in their report they smelled “a distinct odor commonly associated with burnt marijuana.”

According the police report filed, as the officers approached the group, the individuals began to throw items onto the grass.

Upon searching the surrounding area, officers found three small plastic bags and a black case containing another bag, all of which contained what was suspected to be marijuana. Officers also found two pipes for use in smoking marijuana nearby.

All individuals questioned denied the drugs and paraphernalia were theirs.

The group was then searched and read their rights before being transported to another location, the Lincoln Parish Narcotics Enforcement Team office, where it was discovered that one of the group, Jonathan Gruening, was in possession of Suboxone. He was subsequently charged with possession of a schedule III drug.

Only Smith had been previously charged with any drug-related offenses. This was her second marijuana offense according to the report.

The suspects were transported to and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.
