Techsters look to sweep Utah State, Nevada

The Lady Techster volleyball team is in need for anything to get them back on track and resume their winning ways.

The Techsters remain 0-7 in Western Athletic Conference play, and they are hungry for a win.

With two straight road games on tap this week against Utah State and Nevada, the Lady Techsters are hoping to end a four-game losing streak and turn the season around.

The Lady Techsters face the Utah State Aggies, a team who is  2-4 in the WAC and 14-5 overall.

Head coach Matt Sonnichsen is confident his team can turn the season around, despite having to make some adjustments due to injuries.

“We are still trying to get everyone on the same page and trying to get our rotations down,” Sonnichsen said. “We’re getting some different kids on the court and trying some different things.”

Despite not being as successful in WAC play as they had hoped, the Techsters have been competitive in every match,  and they have pushed their opponents to the brink of every set.

Halfway through the conference schedule, the Lady Techsters still have a chance to make the WAC tournament if they can string together a few wins on the season.

Senior middle blocker Kara Jones, known for her defensive skills and senior outside hitter Taylor Fritz have been pacing the Louisiana Tech offense lately, recording 19 combined kills of the 32 total kills the team had in the Idaho match last Thursday

After facing Utah State at 8 p.m. Thursday, the Techsters will travel to Nevada to take on the Wolfpack at 9 p.m. on Saturday.

Tonight’s game against the Aggies will be available latechsports.com’s game-tracker.

The Lady Techsters will return home to face Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 5 p.m. Oct. 28 in the Thomas Assembly Center before playing at Houston Baptist at 2 p.m. on Oct. 30.
