The Lady Techsters’ basketball team is looking to remain on fire in conference play when they host Utah State Jan. 20.

The Techsters have started the new year with a three-game winning streak. Two of the three wins came after defeating San Jose State and Hawaii on the road.

The third win came at home, as they hosted the University of Southern Mississippi and won 83-61.

The Lady Techsters had a thrilling overtime victory in Hawaii Jan. 8, as they knocked off the Rainbow Wahine 74-69.

Head coach Teresa Weatherspoon said despite her team’s success early in WAC play, they still have their work cut out for them.

“We are a long way from being a team,” Weatherspoon said. “When we needed to make plays down the stretch, we found a way to make them.”

Weatherspoon said she gives Hawaii a lot of credit for creating an exciting game.

“I take nothing away from their effort,” she said. “I do find a lot of fault in [our effort] across the board.”

The Techsters are led on the court by a dynamic duo, featuring senior forward Adrienne Johnson and senior guard Whitney Jones.

Johnson continues to impress Techster fans this season by averaging over 20 points per game and almost nine rebounds early on this season.

She leads the Techsters in both categories.

Behind Johnson, Jones has had a standout season for the Lady Techsters.

Jones is the 40th player in Tech history to record 1,000 points in her college career. She is looking to rack up several points the remainder of her final season at Tech.

After facing off against Utah State, the Techsters will face a grueling conference schedule for the second half of the season.

The Techsters are preaparing for an intense battle against the Utah State Aggies Jan. 20 and Nevada Jan. 22 in the Thomas Assembly Center.

The Lady Techsters will host Utah State at 7 p.m. Jan. 20 in the TAC.

The game can be heard 97.7 FM, LA?Tech Sports’ Network.
