The Bulldog baseball team is hoping to bounce back after losing their first series in Western Athletic Conference play on the road against Hawaii last weekend as they travel to California to take on San Jose State in a four-game series starting at 8 p.m. tonight at Municipal Stadium.

Tech started strong on the Islands, despite losing the first game of the series in a pitching duel, eventually falling to the Rainbows by a score of 1-0.

The Bulldogs lost the second game but quickly rebounded by shutting down the Hawaii bats in game three, winning 3-0 behind a stellar pitching performance by senior lefthander Mike Jefferson, who was named Verizon WAC Pitcher of the Week.

The Bulldogs could not salvage a series split on the last game of the series, as they fell to Hawaii 5-2, losing the series 3-1.

The Bulldogs are going into the series against San Jose State with a 3-5 record in Western Athletic Conference play and hold a .500 record on the season at 18-18.

Tech is led offensively by junior third baseman Mark Threlkeld, who is batting .323 on the season, followed by junior outfielder Kyle Roliard, who boasts a .308 batting average heading into the weekend series against the Spartans.

The Bulldogs have put up some impressive pitching performances in recent weeks, with Jefferson leading the team with a 3.05 earned run average followed closely by sophomore righthander Trevor Peterson and redshirt sophomore righthander Jeb Stefan, both of whom hold ERAs under 5.

San Jose State comes into the weekend with an identical WAC record at 3-5 and are currently 23-14 overall.

After the weekend series against the Spartans, the Bulldogs will return home to face off against Grambling State for the third time this season in a midweek matchup April 26.

Tech’s next home series will begin at 6 p.m. April 29 as the Nevada WolfPack travel to Ruston for a four-game series.
