The Tech volleyball team placed four players on the all-Louisiana volleyball team selected by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Lori Hunsucker was named Defensive Player of the Year while also being a first team selection on the 2010 all-Louisiana team. Senior Kara Jones nabbed a second team selection for the second consecutive year while seniors Bianca Bin and Kassia Pinto were also named honorable mention all-Louisiana, marking the first time in Tech’s history that four players were named to the list.

Hunsucker, who set school records for digs in a season and career digs per set, said the individual award is further evidence of the hard work put in by the whole team.

“It’s an honor to be named all-Louisiana and defensive player of the year,” Hunsucker said. “It is just a testament to the efforts of the team over the course of the season and the emphasis that we placed on having a strong defense.”

Jones led the Techsters in total blocks and kills this season and finished her career third all-time on Tech’s career blocks list with 381, moving past Tanya Jarvis and Laura Ebert in her senior season.

Jones said the resiliency shown by the team made up for injuries and hardships that hindered the team early in the season.

“This season wasn’t ideal in the sense that our team was battling the injury bug for what seemed like the entire year,” Jones said. “However, having four of us named to the all-Louisiana team is just a testament to the mental toughness of the team and being able to persevere through adversity.”

Pinto was one of Tech’s most consistent players, starting all 33 games and leading the team in double-doubles with seven on the season, while Bin ranks fifth all-time in career assists at Tech with 2, 663.

Having four seniors on the all-Louisiana team this year marks the most the Techsters have ever had in the program’s history.
