Mildred Gallot, a member of the University of Louisiana System’s Board of Supervisors, has been selected as the keynote speaker for Tech’s fall 2010 commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. Nov. 20 in the Thomas Assembly Center.

Gallot, a Grambling resident, was a faculty member at Grambling State University for 44 years until her retirement in 2003, prior to becoming a board member in 2005. She was head of the history department and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Grambling State University Athletic Foundation.

Gallot authored a book titled “A History of Grambling State University,” which is used during the university’s orientation sessions. She was inducted into the GSU Alumni Hall of Fame in 2007 for outstanding commitment and service to the university.

Tech President Dan Reneau said he chose Gallot because she can offer insight to graduates that will be useful to their futures.

“I consider nominations or choose someone I think can deliver a useful and timely message to the graduates,” Reneau said. “I feel that her years of service as a faculty member and a member of the Board give her a unique perspective on the college experience and opportunities graduates will have upon graduation.”
