The season of new beginnings, of maybe even a happy ending could come for the Lady Techsters’ soccer team this weekend.

The rest of the Western Athletic Conference has been put on high alert as the Lady Techsters pursue their first WAC championship this weekend. Tech hosts the 2010 WAC soccer tournament, which is a huge advantage for the first-time Techsters.

The Lady Techsters have posted one of their best seasons since head coach Kevin Sherry has been in the captain’s helm. This will be the Techsters’ first-ever appearance in the WAC Tournament as they will continue the most successful season in Tech soccer history.

With a record of 5-3 in conference play, the Techsters will be seeded fourth, as they face No. 5 seed Boise State Thursday at 3 p.m. in this week’s WAC Tournament. The games are Thursday, Friday and Sunday at the Lady Techster Soccer Field.

Tech is 15-5, a school record for wins in a season, and they contain a plethora of impact players in junior forward Rachel King and senior forward Kiva Gresham. King broke her own school record in goals with 13 during Tech’s 2-0 win over New Mexico State Friday.

The strength and tenacity of these two leaders will be key to success for the Lady Techsters.

Tech played Boise State on Oct. 10 and resulted in a 1-0 win for the Lady Techsters. It was the first-ever win over the Broncos, as well as Tech’s first-ever conference road victory in the WAC.

The possibility of bringing home a WAC championship is close on the horizon for these tenacious Techsters, as they play on their home turf.
