’Dogs journey to the title

Coming off a gut-wrenching loss to Texas A&M last Saturday, the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech look to rebound by beginning conference play in the Western Athletic Conference.

Tech is the only WAC team that has not begun conference play for the 2012 season.

The Bulldogs will kick off the conference slate Saturday against the University of Idaho. The Vandals enter the contest with a record of 1-6 overall and 1-1 in WAC play.

Following the clash with Idaho, the ’Dogs travel to Las Cruces, N.M., on Oct. 28 to battle another faction of Aggies, this group being longtime WAC nemesis New Mexico State.

After October winds down, the Bulldogs return to Ruston on Nov. 3 for Homecoming against the first of two new WAC members in the University of Texas at San Antonio.

For the second game in November, the ’Dogs hit the road again, this time to San Marcos, Texas, for a Nov. 10 tussle with the other new member of the WAC, Texas State University.

The Bulldogs come back home on Nov. 17 for a huge match-up with WAC frontrunner Utah State. The game will not only possibly determine the winner of the conference but will also mark Senior Day for the 30 senior players of the ’Dogs.

The third group of Aggies that Tech will be playing currently has a 5-2 record and sits atop the WAC at 1-0. They look to continue their winning ways against New Mexico State in a Saturday contest in Logan, Utah.

Finally, the Bulldogs finish up their regular season schedule with a cross-country trip to San Jose, Calif., to battle the Spartans of San Jose State University.

Again, this season ending skirmish could play an integral part in deciding the Western Athletic Conference champion in football for 2012.

Now that the non-conference slate of games has been completed, the Bulldogs hope to repeat as WAC Champions in their final year of membership.

An undefeated conference run would springboard the Bulldogs into another game, making it the first time in Tech’s history that it will have played in a bowl game in consecutive years.
